The 2025 KidWind Challenge in Thailand Preliminary Competition, co-hosted by the Faculty of Science at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and the Asia-Pacific Energy & Science Education Association, was recently concluded with great success. This competition aims to provide students with a platform to explore renewable energy, innovate wind power technologies, and unlock valuable opportunities to compete in international events.
Competition Highlights
The KidWind Challenge tasks students with designing, building, and testing wind turbines to efficiently generate electricity from wind energy. Participating teams must demonstrate their engineering design and energy conversion capabilities in a simulated environment. The winning teams from the finals will represent Thailand at KidWind Challenge in Asia, competing against top teams from the Asia-Pacific region!
Preliminary Overview
The preliminary round saw 40 teams register, fiercely competing for 20 spots in the finals. The preliminary challenge required teams to conduct a 30-second test in a wind tunnel, with the highest electrical output as the scoring criterion. Teams advancing to the finals on August 2 will face tougher challenges, including dynamic tests with changing wind directions, testing the adaptability and stability of their designs.
Student Achievements and Competition Significance
Thai students showcased exceptional engineering problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of energy knowledge, highly praising the competition’s innovative format and educational value. The KidWind Challenge not only sparks students’ passion for green energy technologies but also highlights its significant impact in promoting sustainable energy education.
